TheShy on Aatrox and the 2018 Semifinal

Aatrox is the melee half of the 2018 semifinal image: Jayce in game 2, Aatrox in game 3, and a cast line that still gets quoted.

The record

Games of Legends lists 45 Aatrox games, a 57.8% win rate and a 2.1 KDA. The win rate is a few points under his career 61.7%. The champion is famous because of how the wins looked, not because it is his most efficient lock.

Darkin Blade into a grouped fight is a solo-lane carry pattern. It asks the top laner to find the angle. That is the part of his game fans mean when they say he plays on his own timer.

One hammer for four

In game 3 of the 2018 Worlds semifinal against G2, TheShy played Aatrox. Caster HaoKai's line from that fight is usually translated as the god descending, one hammer for four. Like the Jayce line from game 2, the English wording is a translation, and the game itself is on the Worlds broadcast.

IG closed that semifinal 3–0 and beat Fnatic 3–0 in the final three days later. Aatrox was not his Worlds final champion. It is the semifinal champion people still attach to his name.
