TheShy Career Timeline and Teams

TheShy is Kang Seung-lok, a South Korean top laner born on 11 November 1999. He has played for Team WE, Invictus Gaming and Weibo Gaming. The 2026 season is his third stay at IG, and it has already produced an LPL Worlds seed.

Name and the early ladder

Leaguepedia and Liquipedia both list him as Kang Seung-lok (강승록). Older profiles also use Kang Dong-geun. A Baidu Baike biography says he meant to register the ID TheSky and typed TheShy. The same account says that in middle school he reached Challenger on the Korean server, left high school after about a month, and built a solo-queue name on Riven, Yasuo and Nidalee.

The Riven sequence people still call the TheShy combo belongs to that ladder period, around 2015. It does not belong to his professional champion table. Leaguepedia's 63 champions and the Games of Legends all-time board both omit Riven. The page for that gap is the Riven record.

Team WE, 2014–2017

Leaguepedia's biography says he was with Anarchy in 2014 and joined Team WE as a streamer that November. Liquipedia dates the WE stay from 24 November 2014 to 19 May 2017. He was not yet the LPL top laner the highlight videos describe. The move that starts the recorded peak is the next one.

Invictus Gaming and Worlds 2018

On 19 May 2017 he joined Invictus Gaming as a top laner. The 2018 roster, with Ning, Rookie, JackeyLove and Baolan, went 18–1 in the summer regular season. The only loss was to Royal Never Give Up, the same pattern as the spring. A hand injury had kept him out of part of the year. He was back for Rift Rivals, which the LPL won, and IG reached Worlds on championship points after a 3–2 summer-final loss to RNG.

At Worlds 2018, IG landed in Group D with Fnatic, 100 Thieves and G-Rex. IG and Fnatic both finished 5–1. Fnatic took the tiebreaker, so IG drew KT Rolster in the quarterfinals and won 3–2. The semifinal was a 3–0 over G2 Esports. Game 2 was the Jayce game, and caster Remember's line is usually translated as: had heaven not given birth to TheShy, the LPL top lane would have stayed in eternal night. Game 3 was Aatrox, and caster HaoKai's line is usually translated as the god descending, one hammer for four. Both English sentences are translations of the Chinese cast.

The final, again against Fnatic, was a 3–0 in Incheon on 3 November 2018. It was the first World Championship for an LPL organization. Ning was Finals MVP. Liquipedia lists the team prize at $2,418,750. TheShy's personal share is a different number, and the public tables do not agree on a single career total, so this page keeps the team purse and leaves the wallet figure off.

2019, then the long middle

IG kept the 2018 roster into 2019. Leaguepedia's team history says they beat JD Gaming 3–0 in the LPL Spring final, in a series that lasted about 86 minutes, and that the win was the organization's first LPL title. Liquipedia's results row for that event shows a 3–1 score. The final itself, in the team narrative, is the 3–0. MSI 2019 ended in the semifinals, 1–3. Worlds 2019 ended in the semifinals, 1–3, a 3rd–4th place.

He stayed at IG until 18 November 2021. The years after 2019 did not add another international title. They did add volume: Kennen, Renekton, Sion, Ornn and K'Sante joined Gnar and Jayce as champions with dozens of games.

Weibo Gaming and the 2023 final

Liquipedia dates the Weibo Gaming stay from 14 December 2021 to 11 December 2023. The international result from that contract is the 2023 World Championship. WBG reached the final and lost 0–3 to T1 on 19 November 2023. Liquipedia lists the place as 2nd. It is his second Worlds final, five years after the first, and the one he did not win.

Liquipedia also lists a second place at Legend Cup 2024 Season 1, a 2–3 on 16 June 2024. That event sits between the WBG exit and the IG return. This page does not attach a team name to it beyond the Liquipedia row.

The second IG stay, and the break

He rejoined Invictus Gaming in December 2024 and played the 2025 season at top with Wei, Rookie, GALA and Meiko. IG's Worlds 2025 run ended in the play-in, a 1–3 loss to T1 on 14 October 2025. Leaguepedia's 771-game statistic cuts off on that date: 475 wins, a 61.6% win rate, a 2.36 KDA, 63 champions.

On 10 December 2025, IG moved him to the inactive roster. On 15 June 2026 the organization put him back on the active list for Split 3, under a deal that runs through the 2026 season. The July roster announcement put TheShy at top, Wei in the jungle, Rookie in mid, Assum and JiaQi sharing bot, and Meiko at support, with coaches Kezman, Helper, chengz and Fury. Jiejie had left in August 2025 and GALA in December 2025, so the reunion is not the 2025 starting five copied forward.

What 2026 already is

IG finished the Nirvana group 4–2 in series and 9–6 in games, swept ThunderTalk Gaming 3–0 on 28 August, and beat Top Esports 3–2 on 5 September. Anyone's Legend ended the title run in the lower-bracket final, 3–2, then won the split. In the Regional Finals, Top Esports beat IG 3–1 on 17 September, and IG beat JD Gaming 3–1 on 19 September. That last series is the LPL's fourth seed at Worlds 2026.

The Swiss stage is scheduled for 23–31 October 2026 in Allen, Texas. Anyone's Legend, Bilibili Gaming, Top Esports and Invictus Gaming all start there. The series scores, and the champions he played in the group, are on the 2026 season page.
